Ultherapy Skin Tightening in Miami, FL

The development of Ultherapy allows your skin to be tightened without having to resort to surgery. Finding a doctor who is skilled in the Ultherapy process is crucial to the success of this treatment. Dr. Tal Roudner in Miami is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon specializing in the use of Ultherapy for skin tightening and lifting. His patients have seen excellent results which can be viewed in our Ultherapy Before & After Photo Gallery.

Dr. Tal Roudner makes it his goal to restore a youthful appearance to the skin by tightening and uplifting lax and sagging skin as well as improving the texture of the skin. He achieves those changes by targeting the deep dermis of the skin as well as the deep tissues such as the SMAS – the fibrous tissue overlaying the deep muscles that attach to the skin.

Dr. Roudner uses a long known safe technology – Ultrasound, to deliver energy to a precise area that is seen with the Ultrasound technology and heats the tissue to coagulate the tissue which will cause contraction of the tissue as well as stimulate it to produce new collagen hence tightening and uplifting the lax skin.

Ulthera™ Skin Tightening (Ultherapy)

Miami Ultherapy Neck Skin Tightening

Ulthera™ recently been approved by the FDA for use in the US. Ulthera™ the first device that uses ultrasound technology to stimulate the body’s own collagen response for lifting and tightening the skin and underlying soft-tissue of the face. It creates heat by the ultrasound waves that reaches different levels of the skin and soft tissues that no other device can reach and those can deliver better results. Typically the SMAS a fibrous layer over the muscles of the face that is addressed while performing a facelift is targeted for heating. Then a second more superficial layer of the deep dermis is heated. The heat causes contraction of the tissues and those an immediate elevation and response. Then over the next three months collagen production layers a scaffold that helps tighten and lift the skin and soft tissues even further. This system also uses acoustic imaging to enable the physician to see the layers of soft tissue beneath the skin prior to treatment to ensure a uniform and accurate application of the ultrasound waves. This differs significantly from any other device that is currently on the market which typically use radio frequency or lasers to stimulate the skin. While Ulthera is not going to yield the dramatic results of a surgical face-lift, many patients that do not want a surgical procedure or are not ready for surgery will see subtle, yet significant tightening and lifting of the skin that Ulthera™ provides. With proper screening and the appropriate patients and technique a 90% positive results and satisfaction is expected from Ulthera™ treatments.

How Ultherapy Works to tighten your skin

Before your treatment begins, your skin will be cleansed, and ultrasound gel will be applied to the areas to be treated. Ultherapy is done using a small handpiece that Dr. Roudner will gently run over your skin. Ultrasound waves are transmitted from the handpiece into your skin and the tissues beneath your skin. While discomfort is minimal, some patients are more sensitive to the procedure and the ultrasound waves than others. If you feel uncomfortable, let Dr. Roudner know. The discomfort will stop when the treatment is complete. The procedure itself takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

What to Expect Following Your Ultherapy Treatment

Your skin may appear reddened following Ultherapy, but this will fade quickly. You will be able to return to regular activity the very same day. There is no requirement for downtime following this procedure.

Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories can be used to treat any swelling you may experience following Ultherapy, and Dr. Roudner will give you additional information on this. You may also notice that your skin feels tingly in the days and weeks immediately following your treatment. This is completely normal.

Some effects that are possible but are rare include bruising and numbness. Contact our Miami office if you experience these or others that Dr. Roudner will describe.

You may notice an immediate lifting effect thanks to the power of the ultrasound waves, and your full Ultherapy results will develop over the next two to three months as your skin cells become rejuvenated with new collagen. Some patients continue to experience additional improvement for up to six months following treatment.

Prepping for Ultherapy Skin Tightening

No specific preparation is needed prior to the treatment although the use of creams such as Retin-A (Tretinoin) prior to treatment may be beneficial for increasing the response of collagen production since it primes the fibroblasts to production of collagen.

What to expect from Ultherapy Skin Tightening

Comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, but there can be some discomfort while the energy is being delivered. This is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Dr Tal Roudner will be sure to consult with you prior to your treatment to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come!

Patients may enjoy some initial effect but the ultimate lifting and toning will take place over 2-3 months, as tired collagen is renewed and replaced with new, stronger collagen. As this collagen-building process continues, further improvements can appear up to 6 months following a procedure.

Anesthesia used during Ultherapy Skin Tightening

The tolerance to the discomfort during the procedure depends on the person and their pain tolerance level. It breaks down into thirds. One third of the people tolerate the procedure well with minimal to no anesthesia or analgesics (pain medication). The second third may experience discomfort and pain and may need topical anesthetic, pain and relaxation medication. The last third do have a low threshold to pain and may require local blocks such as given at the dentist. Dr Tal Roudner will evaluate the needs for each patient at the time of consultation.

Length of time needed for Ultherapy Skin Tightening

Depending on what area is treated the procedure may take between 20 minutes to about two hours. A full face-and-neck treatment takes 45-60 minutes, and a partial face treatment can take around 30-minutes—neither with any downtime.

Post-Treatment of Ultherapy Skin Tightening

Are there any side effects from Ultherapy Skin Tightening?

There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so following the treatment, and a small percentage of patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature. There is always the possibility for other less common post-procedural effects, which your practitioner will review with you.

Does Ultherapy Skin Tightening hurt?

Comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, but there can be some discomfort while the energy is being delivered, which is temporary and a signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. We take measures to make the experience as pleasant as possible [customize based on practice’s comfort management protocol (e.g. premedication, cooling fans)], and patients tell us they leave comfortable and happy given the benefits to come.

How long does Ultherapy Skin Tightening last?

Patients treated with Ultherapy still have fresh young collagen after a year’s time following the procedure, but skin continues to age. Yearly touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the aging process.

Are there any side effects from Ultherapy Skin Tightening?

There may be slight redness for a few hours following the treatment, and it’s not uncommon to have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch for a few weeks, but these are typically mild and they are temporary in nature. There can be other post-procedural effects such as bruising and small areas of numbness but these are less common and, again, temporary.

How is Ultherapy different from other cosmetic procedures?

Ultherapy is the only nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that uses ultrasound to specifically target the foundational layer of facial tissue that doctors address in surgery. The use of ultrasound also enables us to actually see the layers of skin we are treating, allowing the energy to be delivered precisely to where it will be most productive.

Is Ultherapy safe?

Ultrasound energy has a proven track record, with use in medical imaging for over 50 years. In addition, the procedure has been cleared by the FDA after demonstrating safety in clinical studies, and tens of thousands of treatments have been performed worldwide without any significant adverse events.

How many treatments does it take?

The majority of patients only need one treatment, while those with a fair amount of laxity may need more than one treatment. Annual touch-up treatments can help slow down the rate of skin aging.

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

There is a broad range of people who can benefit from Ultherapy, but typically those in their thirties and older are candidates. While this is not a replacement for surgery, there are many people who want some lifting, in order to look more refreshed and toned but are not ready for surgery (mentally, financially, or logistically). And then there are younger people who want to “stay ahead of the game” as well as those looking to prolong the effect of surgery.

A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. A lowered brow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of “maturing” skin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.

While Ultherapy is not a replacement for surgery, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially or logistically.

What About Treating Anatomical Regions Other Then The Face?

Currently, Ultherapy is a face and neck treatment. However, the company is conducting a number of clinical studies with physicians around the world to investigate the use of Ultherapy for treating other anatomical regions. Any treatment performed in areas other then the face and neck will be considered an off-label treatment.

What Does Collagen Do?

Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firmed and toned. As we age, collagen loses its strength and its ability to stand up to the effects of gravity that pull the skin downward. Ultherapy jump starts a repair process that strengthens your existing collagen and produces fresh, new collagen.

Can men have Ultherapy Skin Tightening done?

Sure; both women and men globally are receiving Ultherapy.

Is Treating The Lower Face And Upper Neck Off-Label Since The Fda Indication Is Specifically For The Brow?

The treatment reviewed by the FDA was a full face and upper neck treatment; the indication given was specifically for the brow, undoubtedly because there were validated methodologies for measuring the 2 dimensional “lift” effect on the brow. In the FDA clinical study, 9 out of 10 patients had significant lifting of the brow (great for any non-invasive energy based device) and results were seen elsewhere on the face and neck as well.
