According to the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) Botox was originally used for treating the medical conditions that cause the eyes to spasm and misalign. However, it was discovered that Botox could also be used to improve the look of superficial wrinkles and fine lines. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Botox for these purposes. The FDA also approved the use of Botox and other neuromodulators such as: Dysport and Xeomin, for cosmetic treatment to the glabellar region (frown lines).

Top 10 areas on the face to treat with Botox:

  • Frown Lines
  • Forehead Lines
  • Bunny Lines – Lines across the bridge of the nose.
  • Crow’s Feet – Lines on the upper two thirds of the lateral eye.
  • Mentalis Dysfunction – ‘Dents’ in the chin.
  • Brow Lift – Creates a lifting effect of the brow.
  • Gummy Smile – Smile with over exposure of the upper teeth and gums.
  • Platysma Bands – Aging muscle neck lines/bands.
  • Hyperhidrosis – Excessive sweating in areas such as the palms of the hands and underarms area.
  • Glabellar Lines – Vertical lines between the eyebrows that resemble the number 11.

Botox effectively reduces the signs of aging in these areas. If you notice wrinkles in any of these areas, Botox may be the answer for you. Botox can also be used to prevent wrinkles because it keeps you from making the expressions that cause wrinkles to form. The use of Botox or any of the other neuromodulators for cosmetic purposes other then the glabellar area is considered an off label use.

How does Botox work?

Under normal circumstances your brain sends electrical signals from nerve endings to your muscles allowing them to contract and move. A substance called acetylcholine is used to send these signals from a nerve ending to your muscles. Botox blocks the uptake of this substance at the muscle receptor, which inhibits the ability for the brain to tell your muscles to move, allowing them to relax.

What Botox can do for you?

If you feel you notice early appearance of wrinkles, want to prevent those wrinkles from appearing or worsening and want a refreshed youthful appearance, Botox and Dr. Tal T. Roudner may be able to achieve those goals.

At your Botox treatment appointment:

A treatment with Botox is a quick way to take care of the wrinkles and fine lines on your face. Dr. Tal uses a micro-needle to inject Botox into the areas that you would like him to treat. Because the needle used to inject Botox is very small, you will experience very little discomfort or pain during your procedure. Some patients state that it feels like pressure, while others say it burns or stings a bit, yet others state that they feel minimal discomfort. A topical anesthetic maybe applied 45 to 60 minutes before the treatment to numb the injected area and reduce the discomfort.

Recovery time after Botox:

Your recovery time from your Botox treatment may be just a few hours to a couple of days. The results may be noticable within a few days with the full effect taking place at ten days.

If you are considering Botox treatments or any other kind of cosmetic procedure, contact Dr. Tal today. He and his staff are dedicated to helping you feel good about the way you look. Call 305-767-7719 for a free consultation.
